Still think that Cholesterol is the cause of heart disease?

The Cholesterol Myths: Exposing the Fallacy that Saturated Fat and Cholesterol Cause Heart Disease by Uffe Ravnskov MD, Ph.D

This is the master book, written by the head of the international www.thincs.org. If you are new to the concept that Cholesterol is NOT the culprit in causing heart disease, then this book should be your first stop. It is unfortunate that this book is not required reading for all pre-med and medical students. Dr. Ravnskov also explains how statins reduce cholesterol levels and why modern medical convention has mistakenly correlated statin use with the lowering of heart disease. If you want to get a taste of what is in store for you before purchase, you can check out Dr. Ravnskov's web site at: http://www.ravnskov.nu/cholesterol.htm

The Great Cholesterol Con: Why everything you've been told about cholesterol, diet and heart disease is wrong! by Anthony Colpo

"The Great Cholesterol Con" is not the first work to deal with the fallacies of the lipid hypothesis, i.e. saturated fat and cholesterol cause heart disease, nor is it the first to deal with the real causes of heart disease. It is however the most comprehensive individual work available that I know of dealing competently with both. It is Colpo at his best; a very detailed encyclopedia containing the 'who's who' of research regarding the lipid hypothesis, proof of its invalidity and why this farce still continues as strong as ever today. "The Great Cholesterol Con" is an important step in promoting the eventual inevitable - recognition by the international medical community that the lipid hypothesis is based on bad science.

The Great Cholesterol Con: The Truth About What Really Causes Heart Disease and How to Avoid It by Dr. Malcolm Kendrick

Yeah, I am also a bit puzzled how 2 different books hit the market with such similar sounding titles. And no, they are not at all similar - not in style and not in content. Anyone that has read my 'Surviving a Successful Heart Attack' knows that part of my own rehab plan besides food and exercise choices was to control daily stress as much as possible. Now, years later after writing 'Surviving', now I really KNOW why stress control is so important!

The Heart Revolution: The Extraordinary Discovery That Finally Laid the Cholesterol Myth to Rest by Kilmer McCully M.D.

Dr. McCully paid a heavy personal price (his job and research funding) because he dared to challenge the long held assumption that lowering cholesterol is the key to preventing heart disease. He explains how eating vitamin B rich foods can control high homocysteine levels, a much more reliable indicator of potential heart disease.

The side effects of statins

Lipitor: Thief of Memory, Statin Drugs and the Misguided War on Cholesterol by Duane Graveline M.D.

This is the book that made the public aware that statins can and do cause severe side effects. Dr. Duane Graveline, a healthy former astronaut and flight surgeon was given Lipitor to lower his cholesterol. The drug caused several bouts of memory loss and he was eventually diagnosed as having transient global amnesia (TGA). Dismayed by the medical community's ignorance of the cognitive side effects of the statin drugs, and with his own medical background, Dr. Graveline set out to find some answers...

Living with Restenosis 2-in-1-book: Includes: Surviving a Successful Heart Attack 'and' Chronic Total Occlusion: After the Heart Attack, the Statins and Restenosis by Mike Stone

Living with Restenosis is a 2-in-1 book including Surviving a Successful Heart Attack -and- Chronic Total Occlusion: After the Heart Attack, the Statins and Restenosis. They compliment each other; they convey the whole story. 'Surviving' covers the period of discovering that my first 50 years of personal dietary guidelines were based on mass-media advertising and bad science (lipid hypothesis). It ends after recuperating from both the physical heart attack and the statin-induced side effects; however, what next? CTO (first publised in 2007 as The Next 20,000), is that new direction, which includes living with stent restenosis. To the casual reader, the lifestyle changes I have made may be construed as radical. That is what makes CTO incomplete. Without experiencing the emotional scars described in SASHA that have remained following those two statin-induced side effect years, the reader of CTO will not be able to appreciate a lifestyle I now accept as totally normal.

Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats by Sally Fallon

A classic by the head and spirit of the Weston A. Price Foundation, Ms. Sally Fallon. This is more than just a cookbook promoting the premise that animal fats and cholesterol are vital factors in the human diet, necessary for reproduction and normal growth, protection from disease and optimum energy levels. It is also a reference book, including information on how to prepare grains, health benefits of bone broths and enzyme-rich lacto-fermented foods, and more.

Know Your Fats : The Complete Primer for Understanding the Nutrition of Fats, Oils and Cholesterol by Mary G. Enig, Ph.D

Another classic by another senior member of the Weston A. Price Foundation, Dr. Enig provides many aspects of dietary fats, oils and cholesterol in our foods and in our bodies. Different oils have different purposes, which ones may be heated, and which for use 'as is'. Some of the lesser known but healthy oils are promoted for use in the kitchen.

The Untold Story of Milk: Green Pastures, Contented Cows and Raw Dairy Products by Ron Schmid

This is a one of the flag books promoting the use of raw unprocessed milk. The book covers the history of milk and how its nutritional value was instrumental in healing the body before modern science and legislation have all but killed off milk's advantages to our health.

The Milk Book: The Milk of Human Kindness Is Not Pasteurized by William Campbell Douglass II, MD

This is another flag book promoting the return to raw, pasture grazed unpasteurized and unhomongenized milk. Dr. Douglass explains how raw milk was once considered to be nature's perfect food and how the modern pasteurization has not only stripped milk of its health promoting features, but has actually made it harmful.

Enzyme Nutrition by Dr.Edward Howell

Dr. Howell was one of the pioneers warning that commercial processing and heating of food destroys the enzymes in the foods we eat, which greatly taxes and weakens our bodies while digesting them.

Pottenger's Cats - A Study in Nutrition by Francis M. Pottenger, Jr., M.D.

An amazing studying involving feeding cats food ranging from uncooked, unprocessed milk thru cook meat, pasteurized commercial milk. The raw meat/unprocessed milk cats thrived, the cooked meat/processed milk cats did not survive after the third generation. Dr. Pottenger stated "While no attempt will be made to correlate the changes in the animals studied with malformations found in humans, the similarity is so obvious that parallel pictures will suggest themselves."

Your Body's Many Cries for Water by F. Batmanghelidj

Dr. Batmanghelidj claims that many of today's ailments are caused by... none other than... not drinking enough water. He also delves into the importance of salt levels in the body and the dangers of diluting the body's concentration of minimal salt requirements.

Green For Life by Victoria Boutenko

This is one of the follow ups to Victoria's "The Raw Family". One need not be a sworn 'rawist' to benefit from Victoria's green smoothies. Malignant Medical Myths - Why medical treatment causes 200,000 deaths in the USA each year, and how to protect yourself. by Joel M. Kauffman, Ph.D.

If Dr. Ravnskov's "The Cholesterol Myths" was a first generation book exposing medical myths, then "Malignant Medical Myths" is the next generation's continuation. Of particular interest to 'heartees' are chapters regarding statins and EDTA chelation therapy.

Earthing - The most important health discovery ever? by Clinton Ober, Stephen T. Sinatra, M.D., Martin Zucker

I started following Dr. Sinatra's articles regarding heart disease years ago. That said, any book that the Spacedoc recommends reading, is a must read. And any book that knows how to promote anti-inflammation must be on the shelf of anyone who already has, or doesn't and does not want to have heart disease. Anyone who has read both my books already knows that I have learned to think out of the box. I'm "grounded."
